Rescue push launched after Broad Peak avalanche cuts off 10 climbers

KARACHI: Search and rescue efforts were being organized on Thursday after an avalanche on Broad Peak severed contact with an expedition of about 10 climbers, including Nepali mountaineer Nims Dai and Pakistan’s Sohail Sakhi.

The Alpine Club of Pakistan said initial information indicated the avalanche struck around midday on the 8,047-meter peak in the Karakoram, after which the team could no longer be reached. The club described the situation as deeply concerning and said all members of the expedition were reportedly out of contact.

The missing party includes five Nepali climbers led by Nims Dai, Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi from Hunza, Omani mountaineer Nadhira, American climber Mallory Geis, Chinese climber Mr. Wang, and another foreign climber.
