Trekking Route

Kathmandu → Machha Khola → Jagat → Deng → Bi Phedi → Sarang Gumba → Ghap → Lho → Samagaon → Samdo → Tibet Border Excursion → Dharamsala → Larke La → Bimthang → Tilje → Besisahar → Kathmandu

  • Kathmandu: The journey begins in Nepal's vibrant capital. After preparation and final arrangements, you travel by public bus toward Machha Khola, entering the remote landscapes of the Manaslu region.

  • Machha Khola (870m/2,854ft): Located along the Budhi Gandaki River, Machha Khola is the gateway to the trekking section. The surrounding green hills, river valleys, and traditional settlements provide the first taste of the remote Himalayan environment.

  • Jagat (1,340m/4,396ft): Jagat is an important settlement and gateway into the Manaslu Conservation Area. The trail becomes increasingly mountainous as you continue deeper into the Budhi Gandaki Valley.

  • Deng (1,860m/6,102ft): Deng is surrounded by forests, steep mountain slopes, and the rushing Budhi Gandaki River. The landscape begins to change noticeably as the trail gains elevation.

  • Bi Phedi (2,350m/7,710ft): Bi Phedi provides a peaceful mountain setting before the route climbs toward Sarang Gumba. The surrounding landscape becomes more alpine as you gain altitude.

  • Sarang Gumba (3,200m/10,499ft): One of the most distinctive stops on this itinerary, Sarang Gumba offers a peaceful monastery experience away from the busier trekking settlements. Spending the night here provides an opportunity to experience the spiritual atmosphere and mountain culture of the region.

  • Ghap (Approx. 2,500m/8,202ft): After Sarang Gumba, the trail descends toward Ghap through beautiful mountain landscapes and forests. The changing elevation gives the trek a diverse character.

  • Lho (3,050m/10,006ft): Lho is a beautiful high-mountain village surrounded by impressive Himalayan scenery. Traditional stone houses, Buddhist structures, prayer flags, and mountain views create a strong cultural atmosphere.

  • Samagaon (Approx. 3,530m/11,581ft): Samagaon is one of the most important villages of the Manaslu region. Surrounded by spectacular peaks and glaciers, it is an ideal location for acclimatization and exploration.

  • Manaslu Base Camp (Approx. 4,800m/15,748ft): During the acclimatization day in Samagaon, trekkers can explore the surrounding area or undertake a challenging day excursion toward Manaslu Base Camp, depending on weather, fitness, and trail conditions.

  • Samdo (3,875m/12,713ft): Samdo is one of the highest permanent settlements on the route and has a strong Tibetan cultural influence. Its location close to the northern border makes it an important stop before the Tibet-border excursion.

  • Ruila Bhanjyang / Tibet Border Region (Approx. 5,000m): The acclimatization hike from Samdo takes you toward the Tibet border region. The trail offers dramatic views of barren mountains, high Himalayan valleys, and the remote landscapes of the Nepal–Tibet frontier.

  • Dharamsala / Larke La Phedi (4,460m/14,632ft): Dharamsala is the final overnight stop before the Larke La crossing. The environment is rugged and alpine, and the short but high-altitude day prepares trekkers for the demanding pass crossing.

  • Larke La Pass (5,160m/16,929ft): The highest point of the trek is the spectacular Larke La Pass. Crossing the pass is physically demanding but rewarding, with dramatic views of snow-covered mountains, glaciers, and surrounding valleys.

  • Bimthang (3,590m/11,778ft): After crossing Larke La, the trail descends toward Bimthang through rugged alpine terrain and beautiful mountain landscapes. The significant descent provides welcome relief after the high pass.

  • Tilje (2,600m/8,530ft): The route continues through forests and traditional settlements toward Tilje, where the trekking section gradually comes to an end.

  • Besisahar: From the lower Marsyangdi Valley, you continue by vehicle toward Besisahar and then travel by public bus toward Kathmandu or Pokhara.
